Fields Nets Game-High 22 Points in Setback v. MMA

Canton, NY – Terrence Fields scored a game-high 22 points but visiting Maine Maritime pulled away for an 80-71 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win against SUNY Canton on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Maine Maritime jumped out to an early 11-3 lead. Canton battled back with a 13-5 run to knot things at 16 apiece. Canton closed the half on a 12-6 run to take a 35-29 lead into intermission.
  • Fields and DuBois led the Roos with 12 and 11 points in the opening half, respectively. Connor Tuerff paced MMA with 11 points.
  • The Roos opened the second half on a 7-4 run to open their largest lead of the game at 42-33 after a Fields layup just less than three minutes into the second half.
  • The Mariners chipped away at the deficit taking their first lead of the second half after a Malachi Reincke layup midway through the half. Leading my one the visitors used a 9-0 run to open a double-digit advantage with less than seven minutes to play.
  • Canton got within five after a Brennan Harmer trey with 2:58 remainin3g but a 6-0 Mariners run put the game away.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Fields led all players with 22 points and added eight rebounds, three assists and three steals on 9-for-15 shooting including a 4-for-8 mark from behind the arc. DuBois chipped in 15 points, four rebounds and four steals. DeMerrill Levy (11) and Juztin Chambers-Phillips (10) also scored in double figures. Harmer finished with eight points, a team-high five assists and added seven rebounds.
  • Tuerff led the Mariners with 20 points, while Reincke added 17. Curt Heinz (15 points, 18 rebounds) and Carter Rubin (14 points, 10 rebounds) added double-doubles for the visitors.
  • MMA shot nearly 44% from the field, while Canton hit nearly 36%. The Mariners held the edge in rebounds (53-32), points in the paint (34-24) and second chance points (17-7).
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The men's basketball team returns to NAC action on Saturday when they host Thomas at 3 p.m.
