Women’s Volleyball Opens NAC Schedule with Sweeps of Cazenovia & Poly

Utica, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team opened the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) portion of its schedule with a pair of 3-0 sweeps against Cazenovia (25-12, 25-12, 25-17) and host SUNY Poly (25-19, 25-18, 25-17) on Saturday afternoon.

Cadin Taggart led the Roos offensively with 17 kills on the day, while Kaylee Clark was a spark defensively with 38 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
MATCH 1 - BOX SCORE
  • The Roos dominated play in the opening match as they jumped out to a 19-7 lead to take the opening set, 25-12.
  • Canton scored 10 of the first 11 points of the second set and led 18-4 before taking the second stanza, 25-12.
  • The Roos led 21-13 in the third set as they closed things out in straight sets, 25-17.
  • Emily Dreyer supplied a team-high eight kills in the opener, while Taggart tallied seven kills and five digs. Alyssa Adams chipped in six kills on a team-high .385 hitting percentage (6-1-13).
  • Clark registered a match-best 16 digs to go with three aces. Michaella DeCapua dished out match-highs of 10 assists and five aces to go with 11 digs.
  • Sophia Ferris led the foes with nine kills and added nine digs.
 
MATCH 2 - BOX SCORE
  • SUNY Poly led 8-2 and 17-13 in the opening set before the Roos rattled off eight consecutive points to take a 21-17 lead. Canton would close out the first set 25-19.
  • The visitors used their strong finish to the second set to open up a 10-2 lead in the second frame. The Wildcats never got closer than four the remainder of the set as Canton took the second 25-18.
  • Canton led 14-7 in the third set before the Wildcats used an 8-3 run to get within two (17-15). It was all Roos from there as they scored 8 of the final 10 points to secure their second sweep of the day.
  • Taggart struck for a match-best 10 kills, while Dreyer added nine and Adams tallied seven. Sarah Balcom finished with four kills on just nine swings (.333 hitting percentage).
  • Clark posted match-highs of 22 digs and three aces, while Kay Carlson added 11 digs. DeCapua dished out 15 assists, while Nadeau finished with 14.
  • Emma Draper led the Wildcats with eight kills and 10 digs.
 
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are back in action next weekend when they host SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Delhi in conference play.
