THE BASICS
- Result: Game 1: Cazenovia 8, SUNY Canton 1
- Location: O'Keefe Field – Bangor, ME
- Records: Cazenovia (16-9) | SUNY Canton (12-21)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both starters pitched around some early hits getting out of jams over the first couple of innings.
- The Roos had runners on first and second with one out in the top of the second but grounded into a double play to end the inning.
- Cazenovia loaded the bases with one out after back-to-back bunts in the bottom of the second. Kayla Chavarri got the Wildcats to pop up to third and Madison Austin made a great defensive play in left field to save multiple runs and end the inning.
- Canton led off with back-to-back singles in the third, but the Cazenovia defense made a nice play on a fielder's choice gunning down a runner at the plate before striking out the final batter.
- The Wildcats got on the board in the bottom of the third as Serafina French helped her own cause on an RBI single to center. The Roos appeared like they would get out of the inning just giving up the lone run, but an error prolonged the inning as Cazenovia went on the score six unearned runs in the frame.
- Each team added a run in the fifth inning. Sophia Padilla-Gundersen led off drawing a four pitch walk before Tasli singled to left field. With runners on second and third with one out Austin scored Gundersen on an RBI ground out.
- French earned the win for Cazenovia allowing one run on six hits with three strike outs and two walks in seven innings.
- Chavarri took the loss but gave up just two earned runs with a strike out and four walks in six innings.
- Knapp and Tasli had two hits each, while Angelina LoPiccolo and Gundersen had the other Canton hits.
- Caitlin Kelleher and Morgan Marl both went 3-for-4 for Cazenovia with Naomi Kubo and Caila Benning driving in two runs each.
