What is a Little Known Fact About Yourself? I was a figure skater
for seven years.
Who is Your Personal Hero/Idol and Why? I believe that USA softball pitcher Rachel Garcia who plays for UCLA is a personal hero for me. The night before my ACL surgery in Boston, I was petrified. My family turned on the TV in the hotel room and we watched UCLA play Florida State. I was shocked to see her pitch and hit so well while wearing an ACL brace on her leg. She was later interviewed about her surgical recovery and her intense work ethic that helped her return to the game. Her performance and message that night gave me strength for the surgery and the inspiration to work harder than ever to play the game that I love.

Why Did You Chose SUNY Canton:Â I had four priorities when selecting a college. I wanted a sports management program to major in. I desired to be within three hours of home. I wanted to play softball four more years at a college that had a great facility to pursue my dream. I wanted to play for a college that wanted my skills. The coach at the time wanted my bat! SUNY Canton checked off all my boxes.
What Do You Like Most About SUNY Canton:Â I like the atmosphere on campus and the hospitality you feel each day on a smaller campus.
Who is Your Favorite SUNY Canton Professor and Why? I consider Dr. Diane Para my favorite professor. As my advisor, she listens and guides me in the right direction with courses and interests. I recently took a legal studies class with her and was the only girl. She treated me equally as the males in the classroom which I appreciated. Dr. Para’s subject matter was very educational and engaging. I learned from her the importance of always being on time!
What Do You Like Most About Your Sports Team/Coach at SUNY Canton:Â
In high school, there were few girls who took the sport seriously which made each season a challenge for coaching and motivation. At Canton, I finally am on a team with players who love the sport almost as much as I do. We have a great camaraderie and are determined to support each other on and off the field. I am grateful that Coach Thayer has assumed leadership for the season. I always respect a coach more when he or she is by our side working equally hard to be a better and stronger person. She pushes us to be the best we can be. Coach Thayer has an excellent attitude, work ethic, and drive which I appreciate as an athlete.
