Canton, NY – Samantha Dayter and
Maddy Caron combined for 15 points as the SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team cruised to a 22-6 win vs. Maine Maritime Academy in the North Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse championship game on Sunday afternoon in Canton.
With the win the Roos earn the NAC's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship. The tournament bracket will be released Monday, May 9th at 10:30 a.m.
Dayter was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player, while Caron, and captains
Maddy Weir and
Stephanie Thayer were all named to the All-Tournament Team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Roos came out on fire offensively scoring the first five goals of the game with two each from Casey Pelton and Stephanie Thayer and the other from Hannah Reed.
- The Mariners got on the board with 6:45 left in the opening quarter off the stick of Hazel Stoddard.
- Canton responded with three straight tallies from Thayer, Emily Vogt and Caron to extend the lead to 8-1 before another Stoddard goal. The Roos led 9-2 after one quarter.
- The hosts continued to control play outscoring the Mariners 7-1 in the second quarter to get the running clock rule in effect and take a commanding 16-3 lead into intermission.
- The Roos continued to control play in the second half outscoring the visitors 6-3 for the 22-6 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Dayter led all players in points (8), goals (4) and assists (4), while adding five draw controls. Caron tied a game-high with four goals adding three assists, four draw controls and three ground balls.
- EllaRose LeMay posted three goals and two assists, Pelton tallied three goals and an assist, and Thayer finished with three goals. Lindsey Wunder dished out a pair of assists and added a goal, while Hannah Reed had a goal and assist. Vogt, Erin Grandaw and Aayliah White also scored for Canton.
- Stoddard tied a game-high with four goals and picked up a game-best eight draw controls. Lily Cook had the other two goals for the Mariners.
- Madison Leary made seven saves in the win for the Roos, while Charlotte Rose turned aside eight shots for MMA.
- Canton held the upper hand in shots on goal (30-13), ground balls (20-11) and draw controls (15-14). The Roos were a perfect 17-for-17 clearing the ball, while the Mariners were 10-for-18.
