Canton, NY – Kayla Chavarri hit a pair of home runs and Jordan Knapp also homered and eclipsed the 100-career hit mark as the SUNY Canton softball team earned a key 13-5 and 9-1 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) sweep v. SUNY Delhi on Friday.

GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 

• The Roos jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning in the opener and added six runs in the second.
• SUNY Delhi scored one run each in the second and third innings as Canton led 8-2 after three.
• The Broncos got within 8-4 with two runs in the fourth and cut the lead to 8-5 in the top of the fifth.
• Canton would tack on one run in the fifth and four in the sixth as Knapp ended the game with a run-rule walk-off RBI single.
• Chavarri went 2-for-4 with a home run and 4 RBI, while Knapp was 2-for-5 with 3 RBI. Mackenzie Currie finished 3-for-5 with two runs and 2 RBI, while Madison Austin was 3-for-5 with two runs. Sophia Harris scored three times.
• Chavarri earned the win on the mound giving up two earned runs over six innings with five strike outs and two walks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 

• Canton jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the opening inning of the nightcap behind a Knapp RBI single and another Chavarri homer.
• The Roos would add one run in the third and five more in the fourth inning. Knapp recorded her 100th career hit in thrilling fashion as she hit a solo shot over the left field fence in the third.
• Knapp went 3-for-3 with a home run, double and 3 RBI. Chavarri was also 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and 2 RBI. With her five hits on the day Knapp passed the 100 career hit mark and now has 101. Angelina LoPiccolo chipped in with 2 RBI and Austin went 2-for-3.
• Alaina Beane earned the win on the mound throwing the complete game giving up one run with five strike outs.

 

WHAT'S NEXT?
These two teams will play a single game on Saturday at 12 p.m. The Roos will celebrate Senior Day.
