Sophia Harris posted a pair of hits in the nightcap as the SUNY Canton softball team swept SUNY Potsdam by scores of 4-2 and 7-6 on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
- Both teams scored a run each in the first inning of the opener with Gundersen singling down the left field line to score Mackenzie Currie.
- The Roos added three runs in the third. Kayla Chavarri doubled to left center to bring across Currie for the second time in the game. Gundersen and Selena Tasli followed with a pair of RBI base hits to score Jordan Knapp and Gundersen, respectively.
- The Bears got one back in the fifth and despite surrendering three hits in the final two innings the Canton defense came up big to thwart the Potsdam rally. After a one out single in the sixth and a double to left center Madison Austin made a great defensive play hitting the cutoff of Harris as they gunned down the Potsdam baserunner at the plate.
- Gundersen, Harris and Knapp all had two hits in the opener for the Roos. Anna Brown went 3-for-3 for the Bears.
- Chavarri picked up her fifth win of the season on the mound going the distance allowing two earned runs with a strike out and two walks.
- Brown took the loss for Potsdam allowing four runs with eight strike outs and three walks.
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
- Canton jumped out to a quick start offensively in the nightcap with three runs in the first and third innings and one in the second to lead 7-0 after their at-bats in the third.
- Knapp had an RBI single and Chavarri doubled home a pair of runs in the first. Austin plated another run in the second with a sacrifice fly. Alexandria Mikula had an RBI single and Tasli followed with an RBI double in the third before Mikula later scored on a wild pitch.
- Potsdam rallied with four runs in the fifth and another in the sixth. The Bears got the tying run in scoring position in the sixth but Alaina Beane got a strike out for the final out and sat the Bears down in order in the seventh for the win.
- Harris led the Roos with a 2-for-3 effort with a walk in the nightcap, while Chavarri drove in two runs. Anna Grottola and Kaylee Dobransky led Potsdam with three hit efforts including Dobransky driving in three runs.
- Beane earned her fourth win of the season scattering five earned runs over seven innings with four strike outs and three walks.
- Sierra Ashley took the loss for Potsdam allowing six earned runs with two walks and a strike out in three innings.

The softball team is back in action on Friday when they host SUNY Delhi in a NAC doubleheader at 3 p.m.
