Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team nearly overcame a four-goal fourth quarter deficit to tie things late, but visiting SUNY Potsdam survived late to earn an 11-9 win in a non-conference game on Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bears jumped out to an early 3-0 lead just under six minutes in behind a pair of goals from Anita Reitano.
- The Roos responded with four of the next five goals to knot the game at four apiece early in the second quarter. Maddy Caron, EllaRose LeMay, Stephanie Thayer and Samantha Dayter all scored during the run.
- The teams then exchanged a pair of goals as they would head to intermission tied at five.
- The Bears and Roos once again exchanged tallies early in the third quarter before Potsdam rattled off three straight, two of which were man-up. Potsdam led 9-6 after three quarters.
- Potsdam extended its lead to 10-6 early in the fourth quarter but the Roos rallied with three straight goals, the first from Caron and the latter two off the stick of Dayter.
- Canton had a great chance to tie the game with 1:29 remaining but Netta Terrance made a big save as the Bears were able to clear the ball and scored as time expired to seal the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Dayter led all players with four goals and eight draw controls adding four ground balls. LeMay and Caron scored twice each, while Thayer also found the back of the net. Caron picked up a game-best six ground balls and Maddy Weir forced a game-high three turnovers to go with two ground balls.
- Reitano paced all players with six points on three goals and three assists, while Mallory Marks scored three times. Lindsey LaDue added two goals, an assist and four draw controls, while Kyrsten Stone chipped in a goal and two assists.
- Terrance made 10 saves in the win for the Bears, while Madison Leary turned aside five shots for Canton.
- The Roos held advantages in shots on goal (19-16) and ground balls (26-18), while the Bears turned the ball over five more times (26-21). Draw controls were even at 11 apiece with Potsdam owning a 7-4 advantage in the second half.
