Canton, NY – Alex Jacobs and
Austin Mesler combined for 11 goals as the Roos built a 10-5 first half lead, but visiting SUNY Poly mounted a second half comeback to earn a 16-15 overtime win in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- SUNY Canton got off to a strong start owning a 6-3 first quarter lead behind three scores from Hunter Olsen and two from Mesler.
- Play was even in the second quarter with the Roos extending their lead to as many as five before a pair of Poly goals in the final 3:30 cut the halftime deficit to 10-7.
- The hosts extended their lead to four just 17 seconds out of intermission behind Mesler's fourth of the game and 20th of the season.
- From there the Wildcats netted three unanswered to trim the lead to one. Jacobs broke up the Poly run with his fourth of the game.
- Once again, the visitors scored three straight to take their first lead of the game at 13-12 with 12:15 left in the fourth.
- Jacobs put home his 33rd of the season with 11:22 left to knot things at 13. Shane Wyman put Poly back on top just over a minute later at 14-13 before Jacobs and Mesler netted back-to-back scores to put Canton on top 15-14 with 8:29 left in regulation.
- Andrew Maycock tied things up with 2:06 remaining and Sam Servati made several big-time saves down the stretch including three in the final 1:03 to force overtime.
- Off the opening faceoff in the extra session the Roos were whistled for a cross check. Just 16 seconds into the one-minute man-up opportunity Wyman scored for the sudden-death winner.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Jacobs led all players with seven points on six goals and an assist. Mesler tallied five goals and one assist and Olsen finished with three goals and two assists. Logan McCargar scored Canton's other goal with Trent Dow (3), Caeden Goodnough (2) and Noah Robinson (2) all contributing multiple assists.
- Noel Abreu controlled the X for much of the game going 24-for-35 on face offs with 16 ground balls. Goodnough picked up 9 ground balls with Olsen and Tanner Amell supplying five each.
- Play was extremely even overall with SUNY Poly holding a 32-29 edge in shots on goal and Canton having the upper hand in ground balls (56-51). SUNY Canton turned the ball over nine more times than the Wildcats (23-14).
- Maycock, Brody Guido and Keshawn Clark all had three goals and an assist, while Wyman and Payton Thomas finished with three goals apiece in a balanced attack for the Wildcats.
- Servati was stellar for the Roos making 16 saves including several point-blank late.
- Joseph VanZandt made eight saves allowing 10 goals in the first half. Mathew Johnson earned the win for Poly stopping six shots and allowing five goals in the second half and OT.
