Balanced Offense, Stifling Defense Lead Roos Past Fredonia, 18-4

Fredonia, NY – Six different players had multi-goal outings paced by four each from EllaRose LeMay and Maddy Caron as the SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team scored 10 first quarter goals on their way to an 18-4 road win at Fredonia on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SUNY Canton controlled the game early on scoring five of the first six goals of the game and opened a commanding 10-2 lead after 15 minutes of play. LeMay had three first quarter tallies, while Samantha Dayter, Karlie McCarthy and Caron had two each.
  • The Roos continued to control play in the second half outscoring the Blue Devils 4-1 to take a 14-3 lead into intermission.
  • SUNY Canton had numerous reserves see time in the second half while continuing to play exceptional defense holding Fredonia to just one goal over the final 30 minutes.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Dayter had another impressive early season performance with three goals and game-highs of six assists and 10 draw controls. LeMay and Caron totaled four goals each with Caron adding four draw controls.
  • McCarthy finished with two goals and one assist, while Lindsey Wunder and Stephanie Thayer added two each. Michaela Conti netted her first collegiate goal and Hannah Reed added an assist.
  • Erin Woods led Fredonia with three goals, while Julie Culver added the other score.
  • Madison Leary made four saves allowing three goals over the first 26:40 to earn the win. Olivia Scott turned aside six shots allowing one goal over the next 26:35, while Erin Anderson closed out the win making one save over the final 6:45 without allowing a score.
  • Emily Carr made eight saves in the loss for the Devils.
  • The Roos held the upper hand in shots (35-17), shots on goal (26-15) and draw controls (18-5).
  • The four goals are the fewest surrendered by SUNY Canton since they also gave up four in a 14-4 win v. Plattsburgh State on March 6, 2019.

The Roos are back in action on Sunday when they visit Medaille at 1 p.m.
