Thayer Nets Game-High Five Goals as Women’s Lacrosse Opens NAC Play with Win v. Poly

Canton, NY – Stephanie Thayer netted a game-best five goals as the SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team controlled play throughout earning a 14-3 win v. SUNY Poly in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener for both teams on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SUNY Canton owned a 3-0 advantage in the first quarter behind a pair of goals from Thayer. The Roos continued to control the game opening up an 8-2 halftime lead.
  • Thayer had four first half goals, while Michaela Conti, Karlie McCarthy, Casey Pelton and Scarlet Ditoro all found the back of the net once.
  • The hosts continued to keep their foot on the gas pedal outscoring the Wildcats 6-1 after intermission.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Thayer led the Roos with five goals and one assist and added eight ground balls. McCarthy finished with two goals and three assists, while Pelton totaled two goals and two assists to go with four caused turnovers.
  • EllaRose LeMay finished with a pair of goals, Lindsey Wunder added a goal and assist and Ditoro and Conti added one goal each. Wunder tallied a game-high eight ground balls to go with four caused turnovers and three draw controls. Hannah Reed chipped in with three draw controls.
  • Madison Leary stopped three shots in the first half to earn the win, while Olivia Scott made one save in the third quarter and Erin Anderson played the fourth quarter without facing a shot on goal.
  • Molly Burdick and Rachel Salmon had a goal and assist each for the Wildcats, while Alycia Lugo made 18 saves in defeat.
  • The 43 ground balls for the Roos are the most in a game in eight years since they had 45 in a win against Green Mountain College on April 2, 2014. The three goals given up are the fewest surrendered since they also gave up three in a 15-3 win v. Fitchburg State on March 12, 2019.

The Roos are back in action next on Wednesday when they visit Utica College in non-conference action at 4 p.m.
