Jacobs Records Hat Trick as Roos Fall to Cardinals

Plattsburgh, NY – Alex Jacobs recorded his first collegiate hat trick, but host Plattsburgh State scored seven unanswered goals to earn an 18-6 win on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Plattsburgh got on the board first 38 seconds into the contest, but Jacobs responded with his third goal of the year off the setup from Hunter Olsen a minute later. After another Cardinal tally Jacobs responded with his second of the game. The hosts netted the final two goals of the first quarter to lead 4-2 after 15 minutes.
  • The Cardinals outscored Canton 4-0 in the second quarter to lead 8-2 at the half. Plattsburgh added the first goal of the second half just 44 seconds into the third quarter, which extended their streak of unanswered goals to seven.
  • Kyle Fingar broke up the scoring drought with 8:54 left in the third finishing off a pass from Trent Dow.
  • The hosts rattled off six more unanswered to put the game away at 15-3 after three quarters.
  • Logan McGargar netted his first collegiate goal, while Noah Robinson and Jacobs also added fourth quarter goals for the Roos, both of which were assisted by Olsen.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Jacobs led the Roos with three goals, while Fingar, McGargar and Robinson recorded one each. Olsen dished out a team-best three assists and picked up a team-high four ground balls.
  • Zach Gill led Plattsburgh with two goals and seven assists, while Stephen Kane added five goals and one assist.
  • Plattsburgh held the upper hand in shots on goal (33-14), ground balls (50-22) and face offs (17-9). The Cardinals went 7-for-11 on extra-man opportunities, while the Roos were just 1-for-10.
  • Sam Servati made 15 saves in the loss for the Roos. 
  • Christian Bassi made three saves over the first three quarter to earn the win for Plattsburgh, while Dan Clements turned aside five shots in the fourth quarter.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are back in action on Saturday when they host Castleton in their home opener at 1 p.m.
