LaFave Nets Game-High Five in NAC Win at Husson

Bangor, ME – Senior Zack LaFave netted a game-high five goals to lead the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team to a 24-15 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) road win at Husson University on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Husson jumped out to an early 1-0 lead less than a minute in but Canton answered with six consecutive scores to open a 6-1 lead with less than a minute left in the opening quarter. The Eagles added a pair of goals in the final 43 seconds of the stanza.
  • LaFave and Austin Mesler had a pair of first quarter goals each as the Roos led 6-3 after the opening quarter.
  • Darryn Bailey scored two goals in the first five minutes of the second quarter to twice get Husson within three goals, but the Roos netted the final five goals of the first half to take a 12-5 lead into intermission. The goals came from five different players.
  • The Roos continued to control play after halftime outscoring the hosts 12-10 for the 24-15 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Mesler led the Roos with six points on four goals and two assists, while LaFave had a game-best five goals. Hunter Olsen added four goals and one assist, while Caeden Goodnough had two goals, three assists and eight ground balls.
  • Noah Robinson chipped in three goals, Logan McCargar added two goals and one assist, and Carter Pooler finished with a goal and two assists. Alex Jacobs registered a pair of goals and Kyle Fingar added one.
  • Sam Servati made 15 saves in the win while picking up nine ground balls. Pooler and Chris McCann totaled six ground balls and two caused turnovers each. Noel Abreu finished with a team-best three caused turnovers.
  • Bryan Wagg stopped 10 shots in the loss for Husson.
  • Bailey paced the Eagles with three goals and two assists, Danny Carter added three goals and one assist and Gunner McAllister and Jaden Wells supplied three goals apiece.
  • The Roos held the upper hand in shots on goal (34-30) and ground balls (57-48), while Husson edged Canton in face offs (25-17).



WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are back in action on Tuesday when they make the short trip up Route 11 to take on SUNY Potsdam in non-conference action at 7 p.m.
