Baseball Closes out Florida Trip Against Illinois Wesleyan

Auburndale, FL – Dyllon Bougor and Zach Miner had a hit and RBI each but the SUNY Canton baseball team closed out its Florida trip with a 15-3 loss to Illinois Wesleyan in seven innings on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Titans jumped out to an early 8-0 lead after two innings with two runs in the first and six in the second.
  • Canton answered with two runs in the top of the third. Bougor legged out an infield single to the pitcher scoring Anthony Bocchino. Dylan Allen followed with a sacrifice fly to right to plate Nathan Welch.
  • Illinois Wesleyan added three runs in the third to open an 11-2 advantage.
  • The Roos would tack on another run in the fifth on a Miner ground-rule RBI double to score Bougor.
  • The Titans added four runs in the bottom of the frame for the 15-3 final.
  • The game was called after seven innings as the Russ Matt Tournament has a 10 run mercy rule after seven innings when there is a game immediately following on the same field.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Bougor and Miner had a hit and RBI each, while Allen also drove in a run. Ty Reed and Welch also had hits for Canton.
  • Evan Ranneklev, Dom DiLello and Cade Tomhave had two hits each for the Titans, while Jared Mutter drove in three runs.
  • Jacob Cyrus picked up the win for Illinois Wesleyan throwing 4.1 innings giving up two earned runs with five strike outs and five walks.
  • Gavin Neuland took the loss throwing on short rest giving up five earned runs with two strike outs and two walks in 1.2 innings.
     
WHAT'S NEXT?
The baseball team is back in action next Saturday when they take on Utica College for a single game at 2 p.m. at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex in Cortland.
