Madison Austin had an impressive day on Thursday going 5-for-7 at the plate but the SUNY Canton softball team dropped a pair of games to SUNY Brockport (5-1) and Wilmington College (14-3) on Thursday at the Gene Cusic Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
- The opener proved to be a pitcher's duel for the most part early on. The Roos got two outs in the bottom of the second but an error led to four unearned runs for the Golden Eagles.
- Other than that, the game was even until the fifth when Canton responded scoring an unearned run of their own. Madison Austin legged out an infield single to third but a throwing error allowed her to take an extra base and Sophia Harris to score from second.
- Brockport added an insurance run in the sixth inning on an RBI ground out to hang on for the win.
- Kayla Chavarri took the loss on the mound giving up just one earned run and striking out two batters with seven walks.
- Julia Palopoli picked up the win for Brockport throwing a complete game surrendering one unearned run with eight strike outs and five walks.
- Madison Austin went 3-for-4 for the Roos, while Selena Tasli, Jordan Knapp and Angelina LoPiccolo also recorded hits.

GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
- The Wilmington bats exploded for 13 runs on 13 hits in the opening inning of the nightcap.
- Play was much more even the remainder of the way with the Roos outscoring the Quakers 3-1 the rest of the way after multiple substitutions from Wilmington.
- After the Quakers added a run in the second Canton responded plating two in the bottom of the third. Austin singled to left center to score Sophia Padilla who drew a leadoff walk. Tasli followed with an RBI single to center to bring across Austin.
- The Roos added one more run in the fifth when Austin placed a base hit up the middle to plate Alexandria Mikula who reached base on a walk on a 3-2 count.
- Hillary Huffer earned her first win of the season for Wilmington throwing three innings with three strike outs and two walks.
- Alaina Beane took the loss giving up eight earned runs with two strike outs and a walk.
- Austin paced Canton with two hits, while Tasli added one.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are back in action on Friday when they square off with Skidmore and Wisconsin-Superior at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
