Dayter’s Four Goals Lead Roos in Florida Opener v. Warriors

Haines City, FL – Samantha Dayter tallied four goals but the SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team dropped the first game of its Florida spring break trip falling 20-7 to Eastern Connecticut State University on Monday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The teams exchanged early scores with Casey Pelton setting up Dayter's 22nd goal of the season.
  • The Warriors ran of four straight goals from there and scored 12 out of 13 to open a commanding 13-2 lead. Dayter posted her second of the game with 24 seconds left in the opening half.
  • The reigning North Atlantic Conference Player of the Year scored the first two goals of the second half to get Canton within eight but that is as close as they would get.
  • Eastern answered with six straight scores to put the game away.
  • EllaRose LeMay set up a Hannah Reed goal early in the fourth quarter and Morgan Montgomery scored her first collegiate goal off a pass from Emily Vogt.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Dayter led the way with four goals and five draw controls. Lindsey Wunder added four draw controls and two ground balls, while Maddy Caron finished with three draws, three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
  • Shay Ventresca paced the Warriors with six goals and two assists. Caroline Stent posted three goals and two assists and Chloe Miller added four goals.
  • Sarah Gallagher earned the win making three saves in the first half. Madison Leary was credited with the loss stopping four shots and allowing 13 goals in the first half. Olivia Scott made one save surrendering seven goals in the second half.
  • Eastern went 11-for-16 on free-position shots, while the Roos were 3-for-3.  
     
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos square off with Carroll University on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Feltrum Sports Complex in Haines City.
