Fort Myers, FL – Sophia Harris registered a hit in each game but the SUNY Canton softball team dropped a pair of games to Western Connecticut State and Central College on the second day of the Gene Cusic Classic on Monday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
- Western Connecticut recorded 18 runs on 18 hits in the opener on Monday scoring at least one run in each inning. The Colonials tallied one run in the first, two in the second, fourth in the third, six in the fourth and five in the fifth.
- The Roos brought two runs across in the second inning when Alexandria Mikula reached on an error scoring Kayla Chavarri and Alaina Beane. Canton added another run in the fifth when Angelina LoPiccolo grounded into a fielder's choice RBI to bring Harris home.
- Olivia Borde picked up the win for the Colonials tossing four innings with six strike outs.
- Chavarri was credited with the loss giving up 17 earned runs with four strike outs and five walks. She also had a pair of hits at the plate.
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
- Central came out strong in the nightcap with six runs in the first inning, added one in the second, two in the third and sixth in the fifth.
- Chloe Dougherty threw the first three innings allowing three hits with four strike outs and a walk. Emma Neu did not allow a hit over the final two innings in relief.
- Harris, Jordan Knapp and Mackenzie Currie supplied the Canton hits.
- Haley Bach led Central going 4-for-4 with 2 RBI, while three other players drove in two or more runs.
- Beane took the loss for the Roos scattering 10 earned runs with a strike out and two walks over five innings.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are back in action on Tuesday when they will have a rematch with Central at 9 a.m. followed by an 11 a.m. showdown with SUNY Oneonta.
