Four Straight: Fitch’s Double-Double Leads Roos in Win at Lyndon

Lyndon, VT – Andrew Fitch recorded his fourth double-double of the season to lead the SUNY Canton men's basketball team to an 89-66 road win in its final non-conference game of the season at NVU-Lyndon on Tuesday.

The win is the fourth straight for the Roos (11-10) and moves their record above .500 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • NVU-Lyndon held their largest lead of the game at six (23-17) with 8:14 left in the opening half, but Canton responded with a 9-0 run to take a 26-23 lead after a Quran DuBois jumper.
  • The teams exchanged the lead over the next several minutes with Canton closing the first half on a 6-0 run to take a 38-31 lead into intermission.
  • The Roos quickly extended their lead to double digits following a Juztin Chambers-Phillips three that put Canton up 52-42 less than four minutes into the second stanza. The visitors extended the lead to 20 following a Danny Santana jumper with 9:57 remaining.
  • The Hornets cut the lead to 14 with 7:05 to play, but Canton went on a 16-0 run capped off by a Harry Quinlan trey with 2:22 left that put the team up by 30 closing out the game.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Fitch recorded his fourth double-double of the season and his third in the last four games with game-highs of 24 points and 15 rebounds. He shot 9-for-12 from the field, 1-for-2 from behind the arc and 5-for-6 from the line.
  • With his two blocks tonight Fitch now has 99 on the season, which breaks his own single-season NCAA D-III program record of 98 from his sophomore season. With 362 career blocks he ranks eighth all-time in NCAA D-III and is just seven blocks away from breaking into the top five all-time.
  • DuBois posted 17 points hitting eight of his 13 shots from the field, while Santana tallied 13 points on 6-for-9 shooting with six boards. DeMerrill Levy chipped in nine points and Chambers-Phillips added eight points and six rebounds.
  • Mondwell Bukle and Antonio Carlisle led Lyndon with 14 points each, while Antonio Carlisle had 10 points.
  • Canton shot 55.6% from the field, while holding the Hornets to 33.8% shooting.
  • The Roos dominated rebounds (47-28) and points in the paint (48-14).
