Four Score in Double Figures as Men’s Basketball Improves to .500 With Win v. Badgers

Johnson, VT – Juztin Chambers-Phillips led four players in double figures as the SUNY Canton men's basketball team earned a key 83-77 road North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win at NVU-Johnson on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos led by as many as nine points just over six minutes in after a Chambers-Phillips made jumper (16-7). The Badgers responded with a 10-0 run to take a one point lead 8:32 in.
  • The teams traded the lead back-and-forth before Canton closed the half on a 9-0 run that included five points from DeMerrill Levy. The Roos led 45-37 at intermission.
  • Canton extended its lead to 11 with a three-pointer from Danny Santana out of halftime (48-37), but the Badgers used a 24-10 run to take a 61-58 lead.
  • Johnson extended their lead to seven (68-61), but Canton battled back for a 79-77 lead with 55 seconds remaining. Chambers-Phillips and Santana both drained a pair of free throws in the final 35 seconds for the six point win.
 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Chambers-Phillips netted 22 points, six rebounds and five assists shooting 8-for-15 from the field. Santana and Fitch both had double-doubles with 18 points and 10 rebounds and 15 points and 11 rebounds, respectively. Quran DuBois finished with 13 points, while Justin Omaga chipped in seven.
  • Brian Lee totaled 25 points and Romelle Watt added 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Badgers.
  • The Roos controlled rebounds, 40-25. Canton shot 50.8% from the field and 36.4% from three-point range, while Johnson had marks of 43.8% and 43.5%, respectively.
 
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The men's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday when they visit NVU-Lyndon in non-conference action at 6:30 p.m.
