Men’s Basketball Ties Threes Record, Closes out Regular Season with Win on Senior Day

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's basketball team tied an NCAA D-III era program record by draining 17 three-pointers as they earned a 95-71 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win v. SUNY Cobleskill in the regular season finale on Senior Day.

The Roos recognized seniors Andrew Fitch and Danny Santana in a pregame ceremony.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SUNY Canton led by as many as seven in the first half until they closed the stanza on a 5-0 run to take a 48-40 lead into intermission.
  • Cobleskill scored the first basket out of the half, but the Roos exploded going on a 19-0 run that blew open a 25 point advantage less than six minutes into the second half as that would be all they would need to coast the rest of the way.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Santana finished with a game-high 23 points to go with eight rebounds and four assists. Fitch posted his fifth double-double of the season and fourth in the last six games with 17 points, 12 rebounds and added three blocks. He continued to move up the all-time NCAA D-III blocks list as he now sits alone in sixth place with 367 career blocks.
  • Quran DuBois supplied 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while Peyton Olsen finished with nine points and a game-high seven assists. Brandon Averitt went 3-for-3 on treys in just six minutes off the bench in the first half and DeMerrill Levy totaled eight points, all of which came before intermission.
  • Kevin Cadet led Cobleskill with 15 points, while Mike McKoy and Naphtali Regilus registered 14 points each.
  • The Roos shot 46.6% from the field, 43.6% from three and 90.9% from the free throw line, while the Tigers recorded marks of 41.4%, 37.5% and 66.7%, respectively.
  • Canton dominated on the boards, 51-31.
  • The Roos tied a NCAA D-III era program record making 17 three-pointers. It ties the mark set on November 26, 2019 in a win v. St. Lawrence.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
This concludes the regular season for the men's basketball team. The Roos will square off with the Fighting Tigers again on a NAC Tournament Play-In game on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Canton.
