Matthew Headland scored his third goal of the season, but the SUNY Canton men's hockey team dropped the opening round of the Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Tournament 5-1 to host and #8 ranked Norwich University.

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- Norwich opened the scoring at 5:01 of the first period when Philip Elgstam deposited a behind-the-net feed just inside the right post past freshman netminder Kelson Hooper.
- Bryan O'Mara scored at 16:07 of the first, banging home a rebound to double the lead for the Cadets.
- The Roos sliced the lead to one on senior Matthew Headland's goal at 9:24 of the 2nd period. Headland picked up a loose puck in the slot and buried it past Cadet goalie Andrew Albano. Headland was assisted by sophomore Brendan Morrow and freshman Evan Pringle.
- Norwich went ahead 3-1 at 12:17 of the second on a Paul Schmid wrap around goal.
- Norwich's Johnny Johnson and O'Mara capped the scoring with one each in the third as the Cadets cruised to a 5-1 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Hooper finished with 31 saves for the Roos while Albano made 15 for the Cadets.
- Norwich held an advantage in faceoffs 34-27.
- The Roos were 0/2 on the power play while Norwich was 0/1.

SUNY Canton will face Trinity College in the consolation game of the tournament on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
