Strong Second Half Carries St. John Fisher Past Roos in Championship Game

DuBois Named to All-Tournament Team

Brooklyn, NY – Four Roos reached double figures but a strong second half carried St. John Fisher University to a 96-74 win v. the SUNY Canton men's basketball team in the championship game of the Medgar Evers Tournament on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team led by more than five points in a back-and-forth opening 20 minutes as the teams went into intermission deadlocked at 41 apiece after a Terrence Fields three-pointer in the closing seconds.
  • The Roos scored the first six points of the second half, four from Quran DuBois and two from Harmer, to open their largest lead of the game at 47-41 1:27 into the second half.
  • Play continued to remain close with the teams still tied at 61 apiece eight minutes into the second half.
  • The Cardinals used 19 straight points over the next seven minutes to open up a commanding 80-61 lead and put the game out of reach with just over five minutes to play.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Juztin Chambers-Phillips led the Roos with 17 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Harmer had 16 points and five assists. DuBois chipped in 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals and Fields tallied 13 points.
  • Daniel Cook led St. John Fisher with 24 points and 15 rebounds, while Brendan Trapper (19) and Sean Williams (14) also scored in double figures.
  • The Cardinals shot 50% from the field, while the Roos were just 40% on their field goals.
  • Fisher held the upper hand in rebounds (49-33), points in the paint (50-26), second chance points (22-13), points off turnovers (23-15) and bench points (26-19).
For his performance over the two games Quran DuBois was named to the All-Tournament Team.
