Filip Jakobsson and
Zac Sirota tallied a goal and assist each as the SUNY Canton men's hockey team earned a 5-2 win v. SUNY Potsdam on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Roos got on the board first at 3:12 of the opening period when Zac Sirota won a faceoff back to Filip Jakobsson who beat Bears goaltender Connor Green high over the glove side.
- Potsdam tied things up two minutes later when Ryan Mahlmeister fed a cross-ice pass to Carter Lennon. His initial shot was blocked but the rebound went right to Lennon who put it home to tie things at one. Robert Clerc also picked up an assist on the play.
- The Bears took their first lead of the game at 6:48 scoring on a 5-on-3 as Garrett McArthur lit the lamp off passes from Clerc and Nick Alfieri. The Roos outshot the Bears 15-9 in the first period but Canton trailed 2-1 at first intermission.
- Neither team found the back of the net in the second period with the hosts holding a slim 10-9 shots advantage.
- Canton knotted things at two apiece at 3:12 of the third period when Sebastien Paquette scored on a wrister from the blue line. It was the first career goal for the defenseman and assistant captain as he kept the puck in the zone after a failed Bears defensive zone clearance. Â
- The Roos regained the lead just over a minute later. Jakobsson worked the puck from below the left circle to Matt Passaretti at the left point. He played the puck to the slot where Nic Herringer redirected it top shelf past Green.
- Canton added an insurance goal at the 9:19 mark. Passaretti started the breakout from behind the Roos goal finding Noah Robinson in the neutral zone. He played a quick pass to Evan Pringle who skated in beating Green short-side past the glove.
- The Bears pulled the goalie with 1:03 remaining and nine seconds later Sirota scored on an empty-netter with Brendan Morrow and Lucas Roy picking up assists on the play.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Jakobsson and Sirota led Canton with a goal and assist each and Passaretti dished out a pair of assists.
- Canton held the upper hand in shots (37-23), while the Bears controlled face offs (31-21).
- Potsdam went 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Roos were 0-for-4.
- Kelson Hooper made 21 saves in the win for the Roos, while Green turned aside 32 shots in the loss.

The Roos are off until December 30th when they travel to take on host Norwich University in the NSB Holiday Tournament at 3 p.m.
