Four Score in Double Figures as Roos Win in Seikel’s Debut

Canton, NY – Four players scored in double figures paced by 15 each from Terrence Fields and Quran DuBois as the SUNY Canton men's basketball team earned a 79-50 win v. Paul Smith's in their season opener on Tuesday evening.

The win is the first for first-year head coach Dylan Seikel in his debut at the helm for the Roos.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos came out with incredible energy early on as they jumped out to a 13-0 lead 5:34 into the contest following a Juztin Chambers-Phillips three ball. The senior hit another trifecta, DuBois scored a pair of fast break buckets, and Fields capped the run with a pair of free throws and another fast break lay in.
  • Canton played stifling defense holding the Bobcats scoreless over the first 9:49 of the game. Steven Solorzano finally got the Bobcats on the board with a made free throw with 10:11 to play in the opening half.
  • The Roos lead ballooned to as large as 30 (43-13) after a Michael Nunnally make from beyond the arc. Canton took a 45-19 lead into intermission.
  • Paul Smith's never got closer than 21 in the second half as Canton's lead once again extended to 30 on their way to the convincing win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • DuBois and Fields finished with game-highs of 15 points while DuBois added nine rebounds. Fields was extremely efficient scoring 15 points on just eight field goal attempts (6-for-8) and he was a perfect 3-for-3 at the charity stripe to go with three assists.
  • Chambers-Phillips posted 14 points and dished out three assists, while DeMerrill Levy finished with 10 points and three assists. Chambers-Phillips and Levy combined to shoot 10-for-19 from the field. Fadil Atcha-Dedji posted five points and eight rebounds, while Nunnally and Brennan Harmer supplied five points apiece off the bench with Nunnally ripping down six rebounds.
  • Solorzano was the lone Bobcat in double figures with 13 points, while George Browning had eight points and 13 rebounds.
  • Canton shot 47% from the field while holding Paul Smith's to 32% shooting. The Roos (16) committed eight fewer turnovers than the visitors (24) and Canton had eight more steals (14-6). The Roo reserves outscored the Bobcats 35-24 and the hosts also had advantages in points in the paint (46-32), points off turnovers (21-9) and fast break points (22-10).
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The men's basketball team hits the road on Friday when they square off against Alfred University in the Special Tee's Tip-Off Classic. The game will be played at Alfred State.
