HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Noah Robinson opened the scoring for the Roos at 11:26 of the first period, stealing a clearing pass, splitting two defenders and rifling a shot past goalie Simon Brenter's glove.
- The Roos doubled their lead just two minutes later, when junior Gino DeBlasiis backhanded a feed from freshman Jack Seamans into the net. Freshman Trystan Mughal also picked up an assist on the play. The assists were the first collegiate points for Seamans and Mughal.
- Wasting no time in the second period, Herringer scored his first of the evening, and first as a Roo, just 30 seconds in. Parked in front of the net, Herringer tipped a Robinson shot past Brenter. The play was also assisted by senior Jarrod Croswell.
- Castleton would break into the scoring column just 12 seconds later on a Brandon Picard goal that was assisted by Nicolas Garneau and Zach Trempner.
- Midway through the second period sophomore Zac Sirota put the Roos up by three again. Sirota blasted a shot from the slot which was saved by relief goaltender Brandon Collett. DeBlasiis corralled the rebound and fired a pass cross-crease back to Sirota who buried the puck in an open net.
- Herringer's game-winner came one minute later when freshman Jordyn Mughal ripped a shot from the point and Herringer buried the rebound past a sprawling Collett. The secondary assist was credited to junior Sebastien Paquette and Mughal's assist was his first collegiate point.
- The Spartans' Balint Mesterhazy scored a power play goal with just over three minutes left in the period, narrowing the lead to 5-2.
- A goal midway through the third by Francis Young-Menard would close the gap to just two and a power play goal five minutes later by Zach Papapetros would get Castleton to within one.
