Pringle Scores but Four Unanswered Goals Carry Skidmore over Men’s Hockey

Canton, NY – Evan Pringle scored his second goal of the season to tie the game in the first period, but three second period goals carried visiting Skidmore to a 5-1 win v. the SUNY Canton men's hockey team on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Skidmore opened the scoring at 13:39 of the opening period when the Thoroughbreds initial shot from Zach Lindewirth was turned aside by Filip Schlyter but Everett Wardle put home the rebound. Kaeden Patrick also picked up an assist on the play.
  • The Roos responded just 13 seconds later off the ensuing faceoff. Zac Sirota won the draw back to Trevor Christopher who played a pass up the far boards to Jarrod Croswell at center ice who dumped the puck deep for a chasing Zirota. He fired a quick pass out in front to Pringle who buried a one-timer past Blaine Moore. Skidmore held a 14-8 shots advantage in the opening period as the teams were tied at one after 20 minutes of play.
  • The visitors regained the lead at 5:14 of the second period with the skater advantage as Lindewirth made the water bottle pop with a beautiful shot just under the crossbar. Devon Mussio and Wardle picked up helpers on the play.
  • Skidmore made it 3-1 at the 8:20 mark when Zach Frisk beat Schlyter short side over the blocker. Oscar Worob and Sam Saccone were credited with assists on the play.
  • The Thoroughbreds concluded the second period scoring when Patrick netted his first of the season off passes from Wardle and Will Dow-Kenny. Shots on goal were even at eight apiece in the second period but the visitors took a 4-1 lead into second intermission.
  • Skidmore added a goal in the third period off the stick of Jaden York for the 5-1 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Skidmore held a 30-25 advantage in shots and 33-29 edge in faceoffs.
  • Wardle led the Thoroughbreds with a goal and two assists, while Patrick and Lindewirth had a goal and assist each.
  • Skidmore went 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Roos were 0-for-3.
  • Schlyter made 25 saves in the loss for the Roos, while Moore turned aside 24 shots in the win.
