Levy Nets Career-High 18 as Roos Open Brodie Tournament v. RIT

Rochester, NY – Quran DuBois and DeMerrill Levy combined for 41 points, but a late rally came up short as host Rochester Institute of Technology hung on for a 77-71 win against the SUNY Canton men's basketball team in the opening game of the Brodie Tournament on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Tigers led 10-3 early before a 7-0 Canton run tied things up. Play was back-and-forth in the opening half with the Roos leading by as many as five before taking a 36-33 lead into intermission.
  • The game remained close early on in the second stanza before an 8-0 run from RIT extended the Tiger lead to 13 (67-54), their largest lead of the game, with 9:05 remaining.
  • Canton responded with a 7-0 run of its own that included five points from Juztin Chambers-Phillips to get within six with under six minutes to play. That was as close as the Roos would get until DuBois scored in transition to make it a five point game with 11 seconds to play as RIT hung on for the win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • DuBois led all players with 23 points shooting 9-for-16 from the field to go with five rebounds. Levy scored a career-high 18 points shooting 8-for-10 from the field including making both his three-point attempts. His previous career-best came when he tallied 17 points v. NVU-Johnson (2/1/22). Chambers-Phillips chipped in eight points and a team-best three assists, while JJ Omaga had six points and five rebounds.
  • Kevin Ryan led a balanced scoring effort for RIT with 16 points, while Kenny Wilburn (13) and Brock Bowen (10) also reached double figures. Seven Tigers scored seven or more points.
  • Both teams shot the ball extremely well as Canton hit 50% of their shot attempts, while the Tigers knocked down 52% of their field goals and 60% of their threes.
  • RIT had a 38-28 advantage on the glass that led to an 18-7 edge in second chance points. The RIT bench outscored their Canton counterparts 26-13, while the Roos held the edge inside outscoring the Tigers 48-32 in the paint.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The men's basketball team is back in action in the consolation game of the Harold J. Brodie Tournament on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they will square off with Hamilton.
