Nunnally and DuBois Lead Roos in Road Loss at Potsdam

Nunnally Doubles Previous Career-High with 18 Points

Potsdam, NY – Quran DuBois and Michael Nunnally combined for 39 points as the SUNY Canton men's basketball team was within a single point in the second half, but host SUNY Potsdam pulled away late for an 85-71 non-conference win on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos jumped out to an early 9-2 lead behind seven points from DuBois. The Bears battled back to take their first lead of the game midway through the opening half at 20-19.
  • Potsdam opened up its largest lead of the half at 40-29 after a made Parker Kelly layup with just less than a minute left. The hosts led 40-32 at intermission.
  • DuBois scored the first five points of the half to get Canton within three points before the Bears regained a double-digit lead at 50-38.
  • The Roos continued to show resiliency as a 15-4 run got Canton within one at 54-53 after a DuBois corner three with 11:17 remaining. Nunnally scored 10 points during the spurt.
  • Canton kept things within four with less than seven minutes to play, but a 7-0 Potsdam run extended things back to double digits helping to secure the win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • DuBois led all players with 21 points and added seven rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals on 9-for-16 shooting. Nunnally poured in a career-high 18 points and was extremely efficient shooting 5-for-8 from the field and 7-for-7 from the line. He doubled his previous career-high of nine points earlier this year against Clarkson.  The sophomore added three assists, three steals and three rebounds.
  • DeMerrill Levy posted nine points and a game-high five assists to go with four boards. Juztin Chambers-Phillips tallied eight points and JJ Omaga and Brennan Harmer recorded seven points each.
  • MeSean Johnson paced the Bears with 18 points and four assists on 6-for-9 shooting, while Brandon Segar Jr finished with a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Ahamadou Sillah registered 14 points on 6-for-8 shooting and Jeff Williamson added 12 points.
  • Both teams shot the ball well with the Bears knocking down 52.5% of their field goals and 50% of their three-pointers. Canton posted marks of 45.8% and 33.3%, respectively.
  • The Bears had a 36-29 rebounding advantage and outscored the Roos in the paint by 10 (38-28). Canton had the upper hand in fast break points, 18-10.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The men's basketball team is off for Thanksgiving before traveling to square off with host RIT in the Harold J. Brodie Tournament on Saturday at 5 p.m.
