Schlyter Stops Career-High 50 Shots at Stevenson

Reisterstown, MD – Filip Schlyter made a career-high 50 saves, but host Stevenson scored a pair of goals in the first and third periods to earn a 4-0 win v. the SUNY Canton men's hockey team on Saturday evening.

The Mustangs are receiving votes in the preseason USCHO.com Top 15 national poll.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mustangs got on the board just 6:30 into the game converting on the power play as Aidan McDowell scored off passes from Austin Master and Aidan Graham.
  • The hosts doubled their lead three minutes later when Liam McCanney scored even-strength off helpers from Anthony Starzi and Master. The Mustangs dominated shots 18-7 in the first period leading 2-0 after 20 minutes.
  • Neither team found the back of the net in the middle period with Stevenson owning a 17-7 shots advantage. However, 17 big saves from Schlyter kept the Roos within striking distance down just two.
  • McDowell converted his second power play goal of the evening 41 seconds into the third period with McCanney assisting the score. Brendan Rylott tacked on a final goal with 27 seconds remaining for the 4-0 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Schlyter finished with 50 saves in the loss, while Ryan Kenny made 23 stops in the shutout.
  • Schlyter surpassed his previous career-high of 46 saves last year in the Roos 5-2 win against Albertus Magnus in the GNAC Commissioner's Cup Championship (2/19/22). His 50 saves are the most in a single game for the Roos since Spencer Landry turned aside 51 shots on November 21, 2014 in a 4-2 loss to SUNY Potsdam.
  • The Roos were 0-for-2 on the power play, while Stevenson went 2-for-8.
  • The Mustangs held a 47-29 advantage in face offs and outshot the Roos 54-18.
