Reisterstown, MD – Zac Sirota scored a pair of goals including the game-winner with 10 seconds remaining as the SUNY Canton men's hockey team earned a 4-3 road win at Stevenson in the season-opener for both teams on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Roos got on the board first at 4:19 of the opening period as Sirota scored on a back-hander top shelf at the far post. Colton Sipperley and Filp Jakobsson picked up helpers on the score.
- Canton doubled their lead at 12:37 converting on a 5-on-3. Evan Pringle wristed a shot top shelf from between the circles. Trevor Christopher and Matthew Headland both registered assists on the play after Headland's initial shot from the point was saved.
- The Mustangs got one back just 18 seconds after the Roos power play goal when Anthony Starzi scored unassisted.
- Canton held a 12-7 shots advantage in the opening period taking a 2-1 lead into first intermission.
- Stevenson tied things up at two apiece as John Musella scored at 7:21 of the middle period.
- The Roos responded regaining the lead just 61 seconds later. Sebastien Paquette played the puck deep behind the net for Brendan Morrow. Morrow fed a quick pass out in front to Headland who put a one-timer high past the glove side of Mustangs netminder Ryan Kenny.
- In what proved to be a busy second period that saw Stevenson outshoot the Roos 18-6 the hosts tied things up once again at the 13:24 mark off the stick of Malcolm Palmer.
- Play was extremely even in the third period and neither team could solve the opposing goaltender until Sirota's heroics. With the Roos on the power play Jakobsson played a cross-ice pass from the left to right point to Morrow. His wrist shot was redirected out in front by Sirota for the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Stevenson held a slim 33-27 edge in shots for the game, while faceoffs were nearly even at 34-33 in favor of the Mustangs.
- The Roos scored twice on the power play, including the game-winner, while the hosts converted once with the extra skater.
- Sirota led all players with two goals, while Headland had a goal and assist. Jakobsson and Morrow had two helpers apiece.
- Filip Schlyter made 30 saves on 33 shots (.909 save %) in the win, while Kenny turned aside 23 shots in defeat.
