Werner Leads Roos in Mid-Week Match Against Bears

Canton, NY – Sophomore Cassidy Werner led SUNY Canton with eight kills and junior Kaylee Clark recorded 19 digs in a 3-0 loss to SUNY Potsdam.

THE BASICS
  • Result:  SUNY Potsdam 3, SUNY Canton 0
  • Location: Roos House – Canton, NY
  • Records:  SUNY Potsdam (11-10) | SUNY Canton (6-13)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • An exciting first set saw SUNY Canton jump out to a 6-1 lead, capped by a Werner kill.  A strong Bears push tied the match at 6-6.  The Roos went ahead 12-9 on a kill by junior Emily Dreyer, however the visitors again knotted the score at 15-15.  After six lead changes, the Roos were one point away from finishing Potsdam off on a Dreyer ace, leading 24-20. The Bears refused to go quietly, scoring seven of the next eight points and winning the set 27-25.
  • In the second set, it was Potsdam jumping out 6-2 early.  The Roos would close the gap to 9-8 on a Bears service error but that was as close as they could get.  Potsdam would widen the gap and eventually win 25-13.
  • In the last set, the Bears would again go up early 6-1.  The Roos ran off five straight to tie it at six but Potsdam regained the lead and slowly expanded on it.  The Roos made a late push, scoring five straight points and closing the gap to 20-17.  However, it was the Bears who would take the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.
