Rivers Named Roos New Head Softball Coach

Canton, NY – Experienced Head Coach Gabrielle Rivers has been named the next leader of the SUNY Canton softball program. Rivers was previously the head coach at SUNY Oswego for the past three seasons.

"Gabby has exceptional experience at one of SUNY's top athletic departments," Athletic Director Randy B. Sieminski said. "We look forward to her helping develop our current student-athletes while recruiting new players to lead our program forward. We're truly excited about the future of SUNY Canton softball."

During her three years leading the Oswego State softball program Rivers led the team to nine combined State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) wins in 2021 and 2022 after the 2020 season was canceled due to COVID.

Rivers came to Oswego after four years as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II Le Moyne College in Syracuse, N.Y. In her time with the Dolphins, Le Moyne made four-straight appearances in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. In the course of that span, the Dolphins also earned bids to the NCAA Championship twice, winning 32 games during both those campaigns.  Rivers' day-to-day duties included practice planning, travel planning, social media marketing and recruiting. She worked specifically with hitters and outfielders for practice and in-game adjustments.

"I am excited for the opportunity to be the next softball coach at SUNY Canton," Rivers said. "I am eager to meet the team and get started on building the future of the program."

As a collegiate player, Rivers began at Division II Merrimack before transferring for her final three seasons to Brockport. During her junior campaign with the Golden Eagles, Rivers batted .324, walked nine times, drove in eight and swiped four bags.

Rivers holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and Broadcasting from Brockport, where she minored in coaching. She went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Sport Management from Southern New Hampshire University in March 2018.
