DuBois & Chambers-Phillips Lead Men’s Basketball in Road Loss v. First Place Poly

Fitch Jumps into Top 10 All-Time in D-III Blocks

Marcy, NY – Quran DuBois scored a game-high 22 points and Juztin Chambers-Phillips added 19 points but host SUNY Poly used a strong start to the second half to earn a 79-71 victory v. the SUNY Canton men's basketball team in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SUNY Canton held their largest lead of the game at 23-14 with 8:26 left in the opening half after a Peyton Olsen layup.
  • SUNY Poly outscored the Roos 27-15 the remainder of the half to take a 41-38 lead into intermission.
  • The Wildcats extended their lead to 13 over the first 6:30 of the second half. Poly would led by as many as 21 (69-48) with 7:36 remaining in the game.
  • The Roos roared back with a 22-4 run to get within one possession with 1:09 remaining after a Chambers-Phillips layup.
  • The hosts went 6-for-10 from the free throw line down the stretch to hang on for the win.  
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • DuBois led all players with 22 points to go with six rebounds and three steals. Chambers-Phillips posted 19 points and Fitch added nine points, 13 rebounds and six blocks. DeMerrill Levy chipped in eight in the scoring column.
  • Josh Gregory led the Wildcats with a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Jesse O'Dell (18), LJ Randle (14) and Sion Nelson also scored in double figures.
  • SUNY Poly shot 50 percent from three-point range knocking down 10 treys for the game
  • The Wildcats bench outscored Canton 17-7, but the Roos held a 34-24 advantage in points in the paint.
  • With his six blocks Fitch jumps into the top 10 all-time in NCAA Division III blocks and now ranks ninth with 352 career blocks.  
 
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The men's basketball team returns to NAC play on Tuesday when they host NVU-Johnson at 5:30 p.m.
