Conklin and Sipperley Score in Road Loss at Albertus Magnus

New Haven, CT – Bailey Conklin and Colton Sipperley found the back of the net but the SUNY Canton men's hockey team was unable to overcome an early 3-0 deficit in a 5-2 road loss at Albertus Magnus College on Thursday evening.

The game was moved up from Saturday due to an expected snowstorm in the city of New Haven. The teams are still scheduled to play Friday at 5:30 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The hosts jumped out to a quick lead just 94 seconds into the game when Jonathan Stein rang a shot off the post and in for the early lead.
  • Tim Manning made it 2-0 in favor of the Falcons at the 7:38 mark off the setup from Harley Michaels.
  • Albertus Magnus added a third goal midway through the frame on a power play tally off the stick of Cameron Weitzman. The Falcons held a 13-8 shots advantage in the opening period and led 3-0 after 20 minutes.
  • The Roos got on the board at 6:32 of the middle period. Noah Robinson took a shot that went wide of the right post but Bailey Conklin was on the doorstep putting the loose puck into the open right side of the net. Sean Shepard also picked up an assist on the play to get Canton within two.
  • The Falcons regained a three goal lead at the 7:59 mark when Tyler Ignazzitto lit the lamp at even strength. The hosts led 4-1 after 40 minutes.
  • Albertus Magnus extended the lead to 5-1 at 5:26 of the third period. Ryan Colwell set up a Charles Risk score.
  • Canton got one back at 16:18 of the third period. Jake Mayette was able to keep the puck in the zone for the Roos and found Filip Jakobson between the circles. His shot was loose near the left post where Colton Sipperley slid the puck past a sprawled out Logan Bateman.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Falcons held a slim 30-25 shots advantage but controlled face offs 38-27.
  • Pierce Diamond made 25 saves for the Roos, while Bateman turned aside 23 shots for the hosts.
  • The Roos were 0-for-3 on the power play, while Albertus Magnus finished 1-for-5.

These two teams will have a rematch in New Haven on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
