Mayette Nets Fifth of the Year as Late Goal Lifts Brockport Past Roos

Canton, NY – Jake Mayette scored his fifth goal of the season but a short handed goal from Brockport in the third period proved to be the difference as the SUNY Canton men's hockey team fell 3-1 on Saturday evening.

THE BASICS
  • Result: Brockport 3, SUNY Canton 1
  • Location: Roos House – Canton, NY
  • Records: Brockport (12-5-0) | SUNY Canton (6-8-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Brockport got on the board first just one minute into the game. Andrew Harley fed the puck up the far boards to Connor Galloway. He tried to thread a pass through that was blocked by Matthew Headland but the puck deflected right to Casey Winn who backhanded a shot past the blocker of Pierce Diamond.
  • Shortly after killing off a penalty the Roos knotted the score at one apiece with an even strength marker. Filip Jakobsson fed the puck low along the near boards to Colton Sipperley behind the net. He hit Jake Mayette with a quick pass in the low slot as he put a one timer past Golden Eagles goaltender Aidan Curry.
  • The Roos held a slim 8-7 shots advantage in the opening period as the teams skated to first intermission tied at one apiece.
  • SUNY Canton held a 6-5 edge in shots in the second period as neither team could solve the opposing goaltender.
  • The Golden Eagles took the lead at 11:59 scoring short handed. Anthony Hora chipped the puck away on the forecheck and Ryan Romeo fed Andrew Harley for a 2-on-1 breakout. Harley finished across the face of goal past the glove side of Diamond.
  • Canton pulled Diamond for the extra attacker with 1 minute, 20 seconds remaining but Harley tallied his second goal of the night on an empty netter with 42 seconds left for the 3-1 final.
