Eleven Players Record Points as Roos Down Bears, 7-2

Roy Tallies Game-High Three Assists

Potsdam, NY – Lucas Roy finished with three assists and the SUNY Canton men's hockey team scored three goals in the second and third periods to earn a 7-2 road win at SUNY Potsdam on Wednesday evening.

With their second victory v. the Bears in as many nights the Roos improve to .500 on the season at 6-6-1. Eleven different players recorded points on the night for Canton.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos opened the scoring at 14:17 of the first period. Filip Jakobsson played a pass to Jake Mayette at mid ice. Mayette's shot from the high slot was blocked by a defenseman as Mayette hit Jesse Farabee quickly with the puck between the circle and he wristed a shot high past the glove of John Werber.
  • The Bears evened the score three minutes later when Tyler Lisieski took a shot from the right point that was redirected home at the far post by Andrew Lantry. Justin Geary also picked up a helper on the play.
  • Canton held a 13-9 shots on goal advantage in the opening period with the teams tied after 20 minutes.
  • The Roos erupted for three goals in a 2 minute and 17 second span near the end of the second period. Zac Sirota skated the length of the ice and into the offensive zone stopping at the left circle as he wristed a shot into the top right corner at 16:49. Lucas Roy and Sean Shepard picked up assists on the play.
  • Thirty-eight second later Canton scored again. The Roos won an offensive zone face off on the power play. Roy fed the puck from the right point to Farabee. He played a pass down low to the right circle where Jakobsson roofed a shot over the head of Werber for the 3-1 lead.
  • With 54 seconds left in the second period the Bears turned the puck over at their blue line as Matthew Headland skated into the Potsdam zone 3-on-1 and ripped a shot high past the glove of Werber.
  • Canton dominated shots 19-6 in the second period and led 4-1 after two periods.
  • Brett Bannister extended the lead to 5-1 at 2:06 of the third period scoring off a rebound from a Brendan McCormack shot from just to the right of the left circle. Sirota also assisted the score.
  • Brendan Morrow netted his second special teams' goal of the two game series at 10:02 scoring on the power play. Mayette skated the length of the ice and found Morrow in the slot who put home his fourth goal of the season. Canton goaltender Filip Schlyter was also credited with an assist starting the breakout.
  • The Roos concluded their scoring at 16:32. Bannister moved the puck from the top of the left circle to Roy who skated in and McCormack picked up the loose puck in the low slot and finished off his first goal of the night.
  • The hosts added a late marker from Josh Bifolchi with three seconds remaining.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Roos went 2-for-3 on the power play while killing off both of their penalties.
  • Schlyter made 17 saves in his first collegiate win for Canton, while Werber turned aside 39 shots for the Bears.
  • Canton outshot Potsdam 46-19 while the Bears controlled face offs, 46-34.
  • Eleven different Roos had a point and seven finished with multi-point nights.
  • Roy led the way with three assists, while Mayette had two. Farabee, Jakobsson, McCormack, Sirota and Bannister all had a goal and assist each.
