Women’s Volleyball Drops Two to Behrend and Potsdam on Second Day at Saxon Classic

Alfred, NY – The women's volleyball team dropped a pair of three set matches to Penn State Behrend and SUNY Potsdam on the second day of the Saxon Classic on Saturday at Alfred University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
MATCH 1 – BOX SCORE  
  • SUNY Canton fell behind 11-1 early on vs. Penn State Behrend in the opener as the Lions cruised to a 25-8 opening set victory.
  • The Roos were within 5-4 early in the second frame following a Kay Carlson service ace but nine consecutive points helped the Lions take control of the set en route to a 25-12 second set win.
  • Behrend jumped out to a 13-5 lead and at one pint scored 21 out of a run of 24 points to close out the match, 25-6.  
  • Emily Dreyer paced the Canton attack with three kills and added three digs. Cadin Taggart and Alyssa Adams supplied two kills apiece, while Peyton Nadeau finished with a team-best five digs. Michaella DeCapua dished out a team-high five assists.
  • Breana Reynolds led the Lions with six kills, while Kelli Hoffer, Hannah Phillips and Caroline Upham recorded four kills apiece.
  • The Lions hit .310 as a team with 26 kills and just eight errors on 58 total attacks. The Roos committed 19 errors with nine kills in the match.
 
MATCH 2 – BOX SCORE
  • The Roos fell behind 15-7 in the opening set to SUNY Potsdam, but ran off four straight points to get within 17-15 after an Adams kill. The Bears responded scoring six of the next seven points and took the opening set, 25-18.
  • Potsdam jumped out to an 18-11 lead in the second stanza and scored the final three points of the frame to win, 25-16.
  • The Roos were tied at nine apiece with Potsdam in the third set, but the Bears used an 8-0 run late in the frame to close out the match in straight sets, 25-13.
  • Adams led Canton with five kills, while Taggart added three kills, eight digs and a pair of blocks.
  • Bethanie Gratton finished with a team-high nine digs, while DeCapua registered eight assists. Nicole O'Connor pinpointed a pair of aces to go with five digs.
  • Jessica Ader put down 11 kills to lead the Bears attack, while Santara Hart added six and Mikayla Myers supplied five.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos return to Canton to take part in the North Country Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Roos square off with St. Lawrence on Friday at 4 p.m. at SLU. They will then host SUNY Potsdam that same night at 8:30 p.m.
