Nadeau Sisters Combine for Eight Aces in Nightcap, Roos Drop Two on Friday

Canton, NY – Sisters Peyton and Bailey Nadeau combined for eight service aces in the nightcap, but the SUNY Canton women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to St. Lawrence and Oswego State on the opening day of the North Country Classic on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
MATCH 1 – BOX SCORE   
  • St. Lawrence jumped out to a 14-10 lead in the opening set and led 20-15. The Saints then scored the final five points to earn a 25-15 win in the first frame.
  • The hosts scored 11 of the first 12 points and 21 of the first 23 points as St. Lawrence earned a dominating 25-6 second set victory.
  • The third stanza was much closer with the Roos holding an early 7-6 lead after a Cadin Taggart kill off a pass from Bailey Nadeau. From there, the Saints scored 14 of the next 15 points and eventually closed out the match, 25-10.
  • Werner paced the Roos with four kills hitting .800 on five swings. Alyssa Adams added three kills and Victoria Norton notched two. Michaella DeCapua finished with six assists, while Nadeau added five.
  • Natalie Piper recorded a match-best 14 kills for the Saints, while Annika Kreppein and Courtney Benson produced seven kills each.
 
MATCH 2 – BOX SCORE
  • Oswego jumped out to an early 9-5 lead in the opener and had a 20-15 lead late in the set. The Roos trimmed the deficit to as little as 24-23 after a Peyton Nadeau service ace but Emma Fiorentine produced one of her match-best 10 kills to close out the opening frame.
  • SUNY Canton jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second set behind an Adams kill and three consecutive aces from Peyton Nadeau. The Lakers chipped away at the lead and opened up a 17-13 advantage. Canton regained the lead with another Adams kill and back-to-back service aces from Bailey Nadeau. Oswego scored eight of the final 10 points to take the second set, 25-18.
  • The visitors stormed out to a 21-7 advantage in the third stanza before Canton tallied eight of the next nine to get within 22-15. Oswego would close out the match in straight sets with a 25-16 victory.
  • Adams led the Roos with six kills and two block assists. Emily Dreyer and Taggart chipped in five kills each, while Norton added four putdowns. Sarah Balcom finished with two kills on three attempts without an error.
  • DeCapua dished out 12 assists to go with seven digs, while Nicole O'Connor added five. Peyton and Bailey Nadeau registered match-bests of four aces each.
  • Fiorentine led the Laker attack with 10 kills, while Sydney Chiffriller recorded seven putdowns.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos return to the court on Saturday when they close out the North Country Classic hosting a pair of matches in the Roos House. SUNY Canton squares off with St. John Fisher at 12 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. match with Plattsburgh State.
