Roos Improve to 2-0 in NAC Play

Canton, NY – Cassidy Werner and Alyssa Adams led the SUNY Canton women's volleyball team with 10 and 9 kills, respectively, in Saturday's opener and nightcap as the Roos swept Cazenovia and SUNY Poly in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) crossover in the Roos House.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
MATCH 1 – BOX SCORE
  • The Roos fell behind two sets to none in the opener as Cazenovia took the first and second stanzas 25-22 and 25-17, respectively. Canton battled back taking a commanding third set, 25-13 before earning a 25-22 win in the fourth to force a decisive fifth set. The Roos closed out the Wildcats convincingly, 15-8 for their first victory of the season.
  • Canton finished with 72 points in the match compared to 55 for Cazenovia. The hosts also had a strong presence at net finishing with 17 total blocks compared to just two for the visitors.
  • Werner led Canton with 10 kills and four blocks hitting a remarkable .529 (10-1-17), while Adams and Victoria Norton supplied seven kills each. Sarah Balcom totaled five kills and five blocks, while Cadin Taggart chipped in five kills and three service aces.
  • Libero Nicole O'Connor produced 26 digs and four aces, while Michaella DeCapua dished out 12 assists to go with 12 digs and four aces. Bailey Nadeau finished with a team-best 16 assists and Peyton Nadeau chipped in three aces from the service line.
  • Emma Horsch led the Wildcats with 13 kills and nine digs, but committed 10 hitting errors. Alexia Clemons registered eight kills and nine digs. Kimberly Rodriguez posted a match-best 31 digs, while Karissa Decosse had a match-high 29 assists.
 
MATCH 2 – BOX SCORE
  • SUNY Canton continued its strong finish to the first match opening up with a 25-20 win v. SUNY Poly. The Wildcats bounced back with a 25-19 win in the second set, but the Roos took a two sets to one advantage with a 25-20 third set victory. The teams would need extra points to decide a highly entertaining fourth set, but the Roos prevailed with a 28-26 win to close out the match.
  • Adams posted nine kills to lead the Roos, while Gabrielle Durant finished with seven kills off the bench for Canton. Norton and Taggart chipped in six and four kills, respectively, with Taggart adding 11 digs.
  • O'Connor produced a team-best 21 digs, while Peyton (4) and Bailey (3) Nadeau combined for seven service aces. Werner also pinpointed three aces, while DeCapua assisted 14 kills.
  • Emma Draper led the visitors with 10 kills, while Sabrina Trimblett added seven.

The Roos return to the court on Wednesday when they visit Plattsburgh State at 5 p.m.
