Roos Battle Lakers & Soaring Eagles on Day 2 at Oswego

Oswego, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team nearly took a set from Elmira in the nightcap but the Roos dropped a pair of matches to Oswego State and the Soaring Eagles to close out play at the Oswego Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
MATCH 1 – BOX SCORE
  • The Roos jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the opening set v. the Lakers behind a kill from Peyton Nadeau and three service aces from Nicole O'Connor. Canton led 10-7 before the hosts rattled off five straight points to take the lead. Oswego had another run of seven straight points to take a 22-13 lead and close out the opening set, 25-16.
  • The Lakers jumped out to a 13-1 lead in the second stanza on their way to a 25-8 victory.
  • SUNY Canton was within 10-9 in the third set before Oswego pulled away for a 25-12 victory.
  • Sarah Balcom, Gabrielle Durant, Emily Dreyer and Kay Carlson all finished with two kills each for the Roos. O'Connor finished with three aces and 10 digs, while Peyton Nadeau added nine digs.
  • Emma Fiorentine paced the Lakers with eight kills, while Madison Gordon and Georgia Farry tallied four putdowns each.
 
MATCH 2 – BOX SCORE  
  • Canton pushed Elmira to the brink in the opening set as the Soaring Eagles edged the Roos, 26-24. Elmira closed out the match in straight sets with identical scores of 25-16 in the second and third sets.
  • Alyssa Adams tied a match-best with four kills, while Alexis Price added three kills on seven swings (.286 hitting percentage). Balcom, Cassidy Werner and Victoria Norton chipped in two kills apiece.
  • Ava Wallingford, Makenna Clark and Samantha Sprague led the Soaring Eagles with four kills each.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos return to the court next Saturday when they host Cazenovia and SUNY Poly in a NAC Crossover in the Roos House at 1 and 3 p.m., respectively.
