Bentley & Knapp Record Two Hit Outings as First Place Caz Sweeps Softball

Canton, NY – Hailey Bentley and Jordan Knapp recorded two hits each in the opener and nightcap, respectively, but the SUNY Canton softball team dropped a pair of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) games to first place Cazenovia College on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • Cazenovia jumped out to an 8-0 lead after their at-bats in the third inning.
  • The Roos got one back in the third when Sophia Harris scored on a throwing error by the Wildcat catcher. Both Bentley and Harris singled in the inning, while Currie reached base on a walk.
  • The Wildcats added another run in the fourth inning for the 9-1 final.
  • Abigail House earned the complete game win giving up one unearned run on three hits in 5.0 innings.
  • Kayla Chavarri took the loss allowing nine runs, five of which were earned with eight strike outs and two walks.
  • Bentley went 2-for-3, while Harris had a hit and scored the lone run.
  • Caitlin Kelleher and Megan Krieger supplied three hits and drove in two runs each for Cazenovia.

GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
  • The Wildcats tallied five runs in the opening inning of Game 2. Canton got within three bringing two runners across in the third inning.
  • Harris scored Alexandria Mikula on an RBI ground out. Mikula led off the inning legging out an infield single. Madison Austin followed with a single to left field and she later scored on a wild pitch.
  • Cazenovia added one run in the fifth and three in the seventh for the 9-2 final.
  • Knapp went 2-for-3 in the nightcap, while Shaylyn DeVito, Mikula and Austin all had hits.
  • Morgan Marl earned the win for Cazenovia throwing 4.0 innings giving up two earned runs with two walks.
  • Alaina Beane took the loss for Canton allowing six earned runs with four strike outs and six walks in the complete game effort.
  • Lauren Kelleher and Caitlin Kelleher combined to go 5-for-9 with 4 RBI for Cazenovia.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The softball team is tentatively scheduled to play a NAC doubleheader on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at SUNY Cobleskill. If that is unable to take place due to the heavy rain in the forecast, the Roos will next be in action for a doubleheader on Thursday at SUNY Potsdam at 3 p.m.
