LoPiccolo Perfect in Nightcap as Softball Drops Two at Cobleskill

Cobleskill, NY – Angelina LoPiccolo went a perfect 2-for-2 in the nightcap but the SUNY Canton softball team dropped a road North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader at SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • Cobleskill opened the scoring in the opener with one run in the bottom of the third. The Roos knotted the score at one apiece with a run in the fourth.
  • The Roos did all their damage with two outs as Mackenzie Currie doubled and Jordan Knapp followed with an RBI double.
  • The Tigers brought two runs across in the sixth which ultimately proved to be the difference.
  • Knapp, Currie and Hailey Bentley each recorded one hit for the Roos. Megan Gillig paced Cobleskill with two hits.
  • Kayla Chavarri took the loss for Canton allowing three earned runs with four strike outs and four walks in six innings. Victoria Dec picked up the win for the Tigers throwing a complete game three hitter with two walks.
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE  
  • The Tigers blasted 11 runs on nine hits in the first inning of the nightcap to take a commanding lead. They added one run each in the third and fourth innings.
  • Canton got on the board with three runs in the fifth frame. Sophia Harris reached on an error by the pitcher scoring Shaylyn DeVito. Mackenzie Currie reached on an error by the second baseman to plate LoPiccolo. Chavarri rounded out the scoring with a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Madison Austin.
  • Alaina Beane took the loss allowing 10 earned runs. She totaled two strike outs and six walks.
  • Edyliese Aqu earned the win allowing two earned runs with three strike outs and three walks in five innings.
  • Gillig went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI for Cobleskill, while Ashley Cover, Maya Davies, Emma Duarte and Alexis Miran all had multi-hit outings.

These two teams are scheduled for another doubleheader on Thursday at 3 p.m. in Cobleskill.
