Canton, NY – Madison Austin led the Roos with three hits on the day but the SUNY Canton softball team dropped a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader to visiting SUNY Poly on Sunday afternoon. Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
- SUNY Poly got on the board first in the top of the first and things remained close until the Wildcats exploded for six runs in the fourth inning. The visitors tacked on one more run in the fifth inning to earn the 8-0 win in the opener.
- Caitlin Reilly threw a four hitter for Poly with five strike outs. Kayla Chavarri finished with nine strike outs, as she posted 23 on the weekend. She allowed seven earned runs on nine hits and walked two batters.
- Austin, Mackenzie Currie, Shaylyn DeVito and Alaina Beane provided hits for the Roos.
- Reilly helped her own cause with two hits and drove in three runs, while Makayla Sweeting and Ariel Smith finished with two hits apiece.

GAME 2 – BOX SCORE Â
- The nightcap featured lots of scoring right from the start. After the visitors brought two runs across in the top half of the first, the Roos responded with three runs in the bottom half.
- Currie singled to right field scoring Austin, Jordan Knapp brought home Sophia Harris on a sacrifice fly, and Kayla Chavarri doubled home Currie.
- The Wildcats added another six runs in the second, two runs in t he fourth and nine in the fifth.
- SUNY Canton brought one run each across in the second and fourth innings. In the second Austin doubled to left center to score Angelina LoPiccolo and in the fourth Harris plated LoPiccolo on a single to center.
- Jordan Penoyer picked up the win on the mound for Poly allowing three earned runs on eight hits with a strike out. Beane took the loss surrendering 15 earned runs on eight walks with three strike outs.
- Austin and Harris finished with two hits each as they both drove in a run. Currie, Knapp and Chavarri also had a hit and RBI each.
- Smith paced the Poly bats with three hits and 4 RBI.

WHAT'S NEXT
The softball team is scheduled to host Clarkson University for a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
