Pelton Ties Game Late, but Bears Survive in OT, 11-10

Potsdam, NY – The SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team overcame a four-goal deficit to tie the game with just six seconds left in regulation, but host SUNY Potsdam scored the game-winner 1 minute, 24 seconds into overtime to earn an 11-10 win on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos trailed 7-3 at halftime and 9-5 with just over six minutes into the second half but rallied scoring five of the final six goals of the half.
  • Erin Parks caged goals a minute apart before Stephanie Thayer converted off a free-position shot. EllaRose LeMay converted on another free-position attempt with 10:13 to play drawing the Roos even at nine apiece.
  • Hannah Stevenson gave the Bears the lead once again with 6:57 remaining, but Canton continued to battle.
  • Casey Pelton put home her first goal of the season in thrilling fashion with six seconds remaining in regulation off the set up from Parks.
  • Madison Leary turned aside two Potsdam shots in overtime before Alli Stark scored the game-winner off a rebound.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • LeMay tied a game-high with four goals and added two ground balls, while Parks finished with three goals and one assist. Thayer posted a goal and two assists and Wunder recorded a goal, assist and tied a game-best with five draw controls.
  • Shelby Roberts was strong defensively finishing with team-highs of five ground balls and four caused turnovers.
  • Stevenson led the Bears with three goals and two assists, while Stark added four goals.
  • Leary made 10 saves in the loss for the Roos, while Netta Terrance finished with four stops for Potsdam.

The women's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday when they host Plattsburgh State at 4 p.m.
