Weir Scores First Career Goal as Roos Drop Season Opener

Potsdam, NY – Maddy Weir scored her first collegiate goal but it was not enough as the SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team dropped their season opener, 21-1, at Clarkson University on Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Clarkson scored six times over the opening 10 minute of the game and took a 13-0 lead into intermission.
  • The Golden Knights continued to keep their foot on the gas pedal in the second half opening a 21-0 lead before Weir's first career tally with 1 minute, 26 seconds remaining.
  • Weir led Canton with a goal, two ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls.
  • Madison Leary stopped 12 shots allowing 19 goals over the opening 48:27, while Olivia Scott stopped one shot surrendering two goals over the final 11:33. Leary (4) and Scott (2) combined for six ground balls along with three caused turnovers.
  • Shelby Roberts also forced a pair of turnovers.
  • Krysten Stone paced the Knights with six goals and three assists, while Grace Hagberg added four. Julia Nicotra and Julia Lavarnway both finished with hat tricks for Clarkson.
  • Emily Fischer made one save in a little more than a quarter of action for the win.
