Santana Eclipses 1,000 Career Points in Road Loss at SUNY Delhi

Delhi, NY – DeMerrill Levy and Juztin Chambers-Phillips reached double figures in scoring and Danny Santana scored nine points to eclipse the 1,000 career point milestone, but the SUNY Canton men's basketball team fell 69-54 in a road game at SUNY Delhi on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SUNY Canton jumped out to an early 5-0 lead just over three minutes in, which proved to be their largest lead of the game.
  • The Broncos took their first lead of the contest at 12-10 eight minutes in and extended their advantage to as many as eight in the opening half. The hosts led 34-33 at intermission.
  • The Roos led briefly in the second half but the Broncos used a 7-0 run to open up an eight point lead midway through the second stanza. Canton got it within six, but a 10-0 run created a 16-point lead and helped seal the win for the Broncos.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Levy led the Roos with 17 points and added five rebounds. Chambers-Phillips also scored in double figures with 13 points and went 5-for-8 on two-pointers.
  • Santana added nine points and six rebounds, while Andrew Fitch added 11 points and three blocks.
  • Pablo Quinones led the Broncos with 16 points, while Mavenson Therneus added 15 points and eight rebounds.
  • Canton committed 15 turnovers compared to just six for Delhi. The Broncos controlled second chance points (23-5), bench points (20-7) and fast break points (10-0).
 
CAREER MILESTONES
  • With his nine points today, Santana eclipsed the 1,000 career point milestone and now has 1,003 career points.
  • With his eight blocks this weekend Fitch eclipsed the 300 career block mark and currently ranks 16th all-time in NCAA Division III (304).
 

WHAT'S NEXT?
The men's basketball team is off until December 29th when it visits John Jay College at 3 p.m.
