Cobleskill, NY – Brandon Averitt netted a career and game-high 21 points to lead the SUNY Canton men's basketball team to a 65-63 road North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory at SUNY Cobleskill on Friday evening.

THE BASICS
  • Result:  SUNY Canton 65, SUNY Cobleskill 63
  • Location: Iorio Gymnasium – Cobleskill, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (3-4, 2-1 NAC) | SUNY Cobleskill (1-9, 0-2 NAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game was back-and-forth early on before the Roos used a 16-2 run midway through the opening half to turn a four point deficit (15-11) into a 10 points lead (27-17).
  • The Fighting Tigers clawed back with a 9-2 run over the final 4:20 to get within 35-32 at intermission.
  • Canton led by as many as nine in the second half. The Roos led by just one with less than four minutes to play but Averitt knocked down his seventh three of the game and Juztin Chambers-Phillips hit a jumper to extend the Canton lead to six with 1:23 to play.
  • Cobleskill trimmed the lead to one with 37 seconds left on an old-fashioned three-point play. Andrew Fitch knocked down a free throw with less than a second left as a last second Tigers full court heave was off the mark.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Brennan Harmer added seven points, Justin Omaga ripped down a team-high nine rebounds, and Andrew Fitch added eight boards and five blocks.
