Brendan Morrow,
Brett Bannister and
Jake Mayette all found the back of the net as the SUNY Canton men's hockey team scored four unanswered goals to earn a 4-2 win v. visiting Castleton on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Castleton got on the board first at 11:24 of the opening period. Alex Maunula was looking to play a cross-ice pass from right to left on a 2-on-1. A Roos defenseman laid out to try and block the pass but the puck went off him and into the net as he slid into Canton goaltender Pierce Diamond. Maunula was credited with the assist while Bryce Irwin and Stone Stezl picked up assist on the play.
- SUNY Canton dominated play in the opening period owning a 16-3 shots on goal advantage but it was the visitors who took a 1-0 lead into first intermission.
- The Roos pressure finally paid off at 5:37 of the middle period. Brendan Morrow skated behind the Castleton net, turned, and fired a wrister top shelf glove side past Spartan goalie Kyle Alaverdy to knot the game at one.
- Canton owned a 21-7 shots on goal advantage in the second as the teams skated to second intermission tied at one.
- The Roos offense came alive late in the third period as they scored three goals in a span of 80 seconds much to the approval of a raucous crowd.
- At 16:44 of the third period McCormack wristed a shot past Alaverdy from the left circle. Martin and Brady Morrison picked up assists on the tally.
- Just over a minute later Bannister scored on a beautiful wrap around from behind the Castleton net. McCormack and Jesse Farabee earned helpers on the play.
- SUNY Canton wasn't done as off the ensuing faceoff Connor Tuttle fed Martin on a pass into the offensive zone. He left the puck for Mayette as he wristed a shot inside the left post for the 4-1 lead.
- Castleton added a late power play goal with the goalie also pulled for the 4-2 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- SUNY Canton outshot Castleton 45-21 and held a 37-27 edge in faceoffs.
- Pierce Diamond made 19 saves in his first win in a Roo uniform.
- Alaverdy stopped 41 shots in goal for the Spartans.
- Castleton was 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Roos were 0-for-7.

The SUNY Canton men's hockey team returns to the ice next weekend when they visit Anna Maria College for a weekend set on Friday (5:40 PM) and Saturday (3:40 PM).
