Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's basketball team will play a 25-game regular season schedule that includes 14 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contests and 11 home games.
The team's 14 conference games will feature two each (home and away) vs. the other five schools in the NAC West (SUNY Delhi, SUNY Cobleskill, SUNY Poly, Cazenovia, NVU-Johnson). The Roos will also play one game each (two home, two away) v. four members of the NAC East (Husson, Maine Presque Isle, Maine Maritime, Thomas).
SUNY Canton opens its season on November 5th when it hosts Paul Smith's. After a trip to Plattsburgh State the next day, the Roos will then take part in the Penn State Behrend Tip-Off Tournament on November 12th and 13th in Pennsylvania.
The team will host SUNY Potsdam (11/19) and Wells (11/20) on back-to-back days the weekend prior to Thanksgiving before visiting Clarkson (11/23) two days before the holiday. SUNY Canton opens NAC play at home v. SUNY Poly and Cazenovia on December 3rd and 4th, respectively.
The Roos close out the 2021 portion of their schedule with a game at NCAA Division I University at Albany on December 18th before a contest at St. Lawrence on New Year's Eve Day.
Canton kicks off 2022 with a pair of NAC home tilts v. Husson (1/7) and Maine Presque Isle (1/8). Other second semester games in the Roos House include contests v. NVU-Johnson (1/22), Bryant & Stratton Syracuse (2/2), SUNY Delhi (2/11) and SUNY Cobleskill (2/12).
Following the regular season the Roos will look to qualify for the NAC Tournament. The top seed in each division (NAC West/East) will host the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds on February 18th and 19th. The winner of that weekend will advance to the NAC championship game (West winner v. East Winner) on February 26th.
"We are thrilled to be able to play a full schedule this year and get back on the court competing," Head Coach
Chris Klassen said. "Our returners worked incredibly hard last year changing the culture of the program and we have added some very talented freshman who are dialed in on continuing to raise the bar. We have put together a non-conference schedule that will challenge us early and should help prepare us for a tough conference season. We are all excited to get out and play this season and hope to show our fans what the new 'Roo Mentality' is all about!"
