LaDuke and Robinson Help Roos to 12-10 Road Win at Castleton

Castleton, VT – Justin LaDuke made 17 saves and scored a goal, and Noah Robinson tallied five goals and an assist in his season debut as the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team earned its first ever win v. Castleton with a 12-10 victory v. the Spartans on Saturday.

THE BASICS
  • Result: SUNY Canton 12, Castleton 10
  • Location: Dave Wolk Stadium – Castleton, VT
  • Records: SUNY Canton (1-2) | Castleton (0-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Castleton jumped out to a 4-0 lead holding the Roos scoreless over the first 20 minutes and 29 seconds to start the contest.
  • From there the Roos doubled up the Spartans 12-6 the rest of the way.
  • Robinson got Canton on the board on an unassisted tally with 4:31 left in the second quarter and Jacob Facey added his third of the year off the setup from Hunter Olsen as Canton trailed 4-2 at the half.
  • The Roos had a big third quarter scoring seven goals to turn a 4-2 deficit into a 9-8 lead after 45 minutes. Seven different players scored in the stanza as Robinson, Olsen, Dante Coco, Nick Walberger, Facey, Sam Martin and LaDuke all found the back of the net.
  • Canton and Castleton would have been tied heading to the fourth if it weren't for the heroics of LaDuke. He made a save with roughly five seconds remaining and heaved a shot the length of the field that went over the Castleton goalie's head and in just as time expired in the quarter.
  • Robinson came up huge for Canton in the fourth quarter as he had a hat trick in the fourth frame alone to lead the Roos to the 12-10 victory.
  • LaDuke finished with 17 saves recording a .629 save percentage. Max Ingison made nine stops in the loss for Castleton.
  • Chris Labonte led the Spartans with three goals, while Cameron Russell, Collin Johnson and Casey Meczywor had two goals apiece.
  • The Roos had the upper hand in both face offs (17-8) and ground balls (42-37). Walberger finished 13-for-19 in the X for Canton, while Noel Abreu was 3-for-4 and Zack LaFave was 1-for-1.
  • The win is the first for the Roos v. Castleton in program history.
